How One Coaching Session Transformed a Recent Graduate's Job Search Journey

Yesterday, I worked with a recent college graduate who was feeling completely stuck. He’d been applying for jobs on Indeed and other job sites, doing all the right things. Despite being motivated and hardworking, he felt defeated.

He had received a couple of offers—but turned them down. One required a three-hour minimum daily commute. The other came from a company whose products didn’t align with his values. Saying “no” wasn’t easy—but it was an act of integrity.

In our coaching session, we reframed those “no’s” as valuable data. Together, we uncovered how those decisions reflected his values, priorities, and vision for the future.

We got into:

• His long-term goals

• What matters most right now (money, hours, health, industry)

• The skills he wants to build

• The kinds of roles and organizations that actually fit

  
  

By the end of just one session, he was lit up. He had a North Star, a strategy, and clear, feasible next steps. He left the session energized. We’re continuing our work together because, in his words, “This was the first time I’ve felt real momentum in months.”

It reminded me of my own early career struggles—and how powerful it would have been to have a coach then. That’s a huge part of why I do this work: to help people get clarity faster, with less confusion and more confidence.
